Atop a hill, overlooking the farmland beyond Rome's walls, lies the Temple at Palestrina. Though mostly ruinous now, the temple and rocky landscape provides an excellent habitat for deer and mountain goat, while the caverns and labyrinths give shelter from the unpredictable weather.

The Cerveteri, or 'City of the Dead' is unique in that it contains the tombs of fallen Heroes and Warlords which much resemble houses. Despite its eerie nature, many of the tombs on the outskirts of the cemetery were never filled, and thus, are used as shelter by nomads and free-men alike.

Less than a mile from the white beaches of the Messinian Bay, the gaping entrance to the labyrinth of tunnels at Diros provides a natural haven from the elements. It is widely known for its beauty, as crystallised stalactites and stalagmites form sculptures for miles within.

Rising to the west of Sparta is the Taygetos Mountain Range, often tipped with snow despite the heat typical of the area. Laced with streams, trees grow in abundance, and many of the slopes are speckled with crimson poppies.

With the highest peaks in Attica, the summit of Parnitha is known as Karavola. Densely forested, it provides shelter for many, particularly during rainy weather, and is an excellent place to forage for food and hunt for wildfowl. Be careful during winter, though - the snowfall is heavy and can be treacherous for children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

Renowned for its temple dedicated to Artemis, the goddess of hunting and childbirth, Brauron is often visited briefly by many to relieve them of any pain during pregnancy, though they often travel afar, to the Bay of Hera, to give birth; visiting here can increase the likelihood of pregnancy. Every four years, a procession of women and their children travel from Athens to the Temple to present offerings to Artemis and wish for happiness within their family lives.

The Megaran Plains stretch the full width of the Isthmus, a flat grassland excellent for growth of crops. If you stand at one side, you can see across the entire plain to the opposite bay.

To the north of the Isthmus, the great Gulf of Corinth gives Megara access to the seas and the grain paths across Europa. Its beaches are renowned for their pure, white sand.

Merely two kilometres from the city of Megara, this sparse forest marks the crossing from the Isthmus onto the Grecian mainland. However, it is known that the wild cattle which inhabit the forest are unnaturally aggressive - perhaps descendants of the Cretan Bull.
